Location:
The city of Asti is located in the midst of the incredible wine regions of Piedmont, between the hills of Monferrato to the north and Roero, Barolo and Barbaresco to the southwest. Also within easy reach is the beautiful landscape of the Langhe, an internationally renowned Unesco region.
The elegant city of Turin is easily reached by car in 45 minutes.
The House:
Extensive restoration and renovation work has been undertaken with the primary aim of retaining the original quality and materials of the building where possible and thus preserving the intrinsic charm and character of such an ancient building.
The new work has included a complete upgrade of the plumbing and electrical systems in most of the building. The heating system of the house is managed by a pellet boiler and solar panels. Double glazing is present throughout the house and the roof is insulated.
In italy it is not common for kitchen and furniture to be included – in this instance however, bespoke kitchen, outdoor furniture and various fittings and fixtures are part of the artistic vision of the artists on this house and they are included in the sale.
The artisanal details and careful research into the furnishings and finishes extend to the bespoke lighting systems, porphyry kitchen worktops, antique marble bathroom sinks, recycled larch cabinetry and designer doors. The external sculptural elements, always work of the artist, include a unique steel fence and entrance gate, outdoor dining table and barbecue.
The spacious main residential part, approximately 420 m² on three floors, currently features three entrances at different levels, two from the ground floor and the other from a secluded garden area on the first floor, leading directly into a large kitchen and dining room with adjacent kitchenette. Also on this floor are a laundry room, a living room/cinema room and a designer guest bathroom.
The original internal staircase of the house has been retained and connects all three floors. On the top [second] floor there is a large bedroom with a spacious en suite bathroom and two further bedrooms, one of which has an en suite bathroom.
The first floor leads directly into the former barn, which has been transformed into a magnificent 200 m2 studio, very bright, with large arched windows, offering numerous possibilities for use.
A new internal staircase connects to the large ground floor below, which is yet to be developed and also offers numerous opportunities for customisation. This area comprises a large vaulted hall with five further rooms. One or two separate apartments could be created here or the entire complex could be incorporated into one large residence.
All the preparatory work for the renovation was carried out on this floor. The main walls of the house have been reinforced and the vaulted ceilings have been sandblasted. All that remains to complete the work to the ground floor are electrical and plumbing installations, final wall/floor coverings and window upgrades.
The property includes an area with large arched openings, with a canopy at the rear and covered parking, on the ground floor. In the basement, there is also a large vaulted cellar of about 100 square meters, previously used to store wine barrels.
