LIZZANELLO – SALENTO
A few kilometers from Lecce, we offer for sale an ancient underground olive oil mill of about 610 sqm, dating back to 1700 and built in the typical tuff bank of the Salento area, with an olive grove of about 9.400 sqm.
In the underground part, the oil mill is divided into two large rooms; they were once used as the central places for oil processing; it is still visible the groove of the old millstone and the masonry niches for the wooden presses.
On the walls of the first underground room some graffiti can be found which probably have devotional meanings or words that presumably refer to the period of greatest activity of the mill.
Around the central rooms there are numerous smaller rooms used as stables, kitchens and bedrooms for the workers.
The underground oil mill, which is the symbol of a peasant tradition, is a physical place full of impressive meanings and, although it hasn’t been used in its original function for decades, it still has an incredible charm today.
It can be used not only as accommodation, events hall, wellness center and private property with multiple potentials and unique structural features, but also as a characteristic place for exhibitions, conferences, theater events, concerts, acting schools, training workshops and scholastic visits.
The property is connected with the provincial street Lecce-Lizzanello, it is located less than 3 km from the town of Lizzanello and 7 km from Lecce, 15 km from the Adriatic coast, 40 km from the Ionian coast, 60 km from Brindisi airport and 180 km from Bari International Airport.
